Use materials to design a solution to a human problem by mimicking how plants and/or animals use their external parts to help them survive, grow, and meet their needs. Clarification: Examples include designing protective clothing by mimicking turtle shells, animal scales, or acorn shells; stabilizing structures using animal tails and plant roots as models; creating barriers mimicking thorns and quills; and detection systems inspired by eyes and ears.
